Great site Marcus!

I really like the African shots, especially the sand dune with the trees at the bottom. I'd love to come visit Norway and sea kayak around in the fjords!

Take care!

Hi there Marcus & Annette,

I hope your both well and recovered from your holiday.

Please forgive me for not getting in touch sooner. However, I've been extremely busy at work since I've got back and haven't had any time to reflect on the change.

I hope your Asiatic Lion sightings in Gir Forest were succesful?. As for me I didn't see anything in Kanha, but I can't complain after the luck I had in Bandavgarh.I ended up seeing four Sloth bears and the four tiger cubs together.

All I heard on the night I had arrived in Kanha were moans and groans from a party of British tourists. These guys had spent full 6 days tracking tigers but were not rewarded for their efforts with no sightings at all. This made me feel even more priveleged at what I saw and experienced in Bandavgarh.

The tiger sightings in Kanha are somewhat limited given the vastnessof the jungle resulting in less sightings despite there being more tigers there. I all also had two further obstacles, every March in Kanha the authorities burn the grasses to make way for fresh growth, this naturally drives the tigers further away into the dense forest. The other was a tiger killing a young village girl on the night I had arrived at the park. This ment that there were no elelphants to view tigers on since they were searching for the maneater. Overall , I wouldn't go back to Kanha and stick with Bandavgarh.

I arrived back in London on 30th March , almost 2 weeks ago. I had to get rid of my beard, my wife wasn't to keen on it. She said that I looked like an Indian Santa Clause. By the way she wants to meet both of you. So, please come and see us.

Please also tell me how you got on in Gir ,did you you get to see many Lions?. Also I understand that the Leopard density in the park is high. Did you see any?

I got my tiger pictures back , there a few good ones . I will scan them in when I buy a slide scanner. I still have'nt started on my article , but with my younger brother wedding around the corner and the bank holidays coming up , this will have to take the back seat.

I will write to you soon , take care

Um 's

PS - please send me your scanned pictures

Flotte bilder! Synes Anette også har vært flink til å fotografere. Det var hun som tipset meg. Gøy å lese om turene deres. India ble kanskje "litt" spesielt. Gleder meg til bildene, men det var jo kjempesynd med kameraet! 22. april 2004.

Hei begge to! Grip sjansen før forpliktelsene blir for mange her hjemme. Jeg angrer på at jeg ikke har dratt på jordomseiling!

Hi Marcus,

Good to see the pictures from India. I especially liked the ones of B2 in the water and the yawning lioness. I too did get them yawning, but in poor light and thus no sharp shots.

I have replied in detail by e-mail.

Best,

Thanks for the 28-70/2.8 review. Interesting you still like the lens after damning it. All accounts I've read seem to applaud it's image quality, but damn it's focus speed in general. I'm waiting/hoping for a SSM version. Just wanted to note that the outline numbers don't match in the review - they go from 2 or 3 to 5 (no 4?) k.

Hi Marcus Your lens reviews are very interesting and your pictures are amazing. I´ve read over the dpreview forum that you an an KM 7D owner now. Congrat´s I would be interested for what lens you will change your 28-80 G lens to get the same focal length on the 7D. I wish KM would introduce an 24-80/2.8 SSM. or 18-50/2.8 SSM Also do you have experience with the 300 f4? Drop me an email if you do regards markus markushackl@hotmail.com

Very interesting information on the lenses. Great sample photos! How do you think the 100-300APO compares with the 70-200SSM? I use the 100-300 quite a lot on the 7D but miss the 100-150 end due to the 1.5 crop factor. mike_riach@yahoo.co.uk

Hi Marcus, Sometime ago I wrote to you about my decision in buying a Minolta 200mm f/2.8, based on your review of such lens. However, such lens is not available in USA for about 6 months already. It is always "Out of Stock" and I would like to ask you the possibility to find it in your country. Could you please give me the name, web address or e-mail of any camera shop that has it? Thanks in advance for any help. Luiz Cavalcante - Belo Horizonte - Brazil e-mail: luiz.cavalcante@acesita.com.br

Dominique Florentin 12-08-2005 Huge thanks Marcus, for this most excellent review of the Minolta 70-200mm f/2.8 Apo G (D) SSM. As usual it is a pleasure to read and a comfort to see it matches other tests results. Your user's experience is valuable. I'm still saving to get one for use with my film Dynax 7 and maybe some day on a Dynax 5D... or on a Sony-Konica Minolta if their joint efforts finally produce a Minolta mount compatible DSLR.

Congratulation for your web site and the fantastic pictures. I am a proud Minolta fan, as I own a lot of cameras from this great firm ; I can tell I have a collection ;).  Thus I'm happy to see that, among Canon and Nikon web sites with great pictures, there is the proof that our cameras and an excellent photographer can do wonderful shots :)

Just a note to thank you for posting your review of the Minolta lens. My brother gave me all his "old" camera equipment and since I've been a Nikon user, knew little about the Minolta products. Your review was just what I was looking for.

Then I got to see your beautiful photos. My treat for the day.

Your entire web site is an instructional journal for me, a newbie to Minolta (7D & 700si) with a dozen lenses, 300 APO being the newest acquisition. Am an ins adjuster (crash your car, I write the estimate) so point & shoots have been my main thing until last year when I got my 1st SLR. WOW! Anyway, thank you, your site is in my Favorites list.

Nice site. Great article on the 70-200 2.8. I have a 7D and have not been happy with the slow focus. I guess I'll start saving for the 70-200 lens. What do you think of the A100? I got to use a friends briefly. Like the faster focus but he hasn't emailed me a shot I took at 800 ISO to see the noise. Other than those two things, I love the camera. Hoping Sony comes out with a new one this year. Loved the tiger shots, and from the back of an elephant. Keep shooting 'em!
